LMFT & LCMHC Supervision with Dr. Byron Coley

Empowered Support for Emerging Therapists

Becoming a therapist is more than completing hours. It is about finding your voice, growing your capacity, and learning how to show up well for your clients and yourself. As a Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist, AAMFT Approved Supervisor, and a Qualified Supervisor for LCMHCs in North Carolina, I provide thoughtful, practical, and real-world supervision for pre-licensed clinicians working toward licensure.

I offer supervision to associate MFTs in North Carolina and South Carolina, as well as LCMHC associates in North Carolina. I know what those early years can feel like. Holding complex cases. Sitting with uncertainty. Wondering if you are doing this right. Supervision with me is a space where you do not have to have it all figured out. Together, we focus on building confidence, strengthening clinical judgment, and supporting growth that aligns with who you are as a clinician.

My Approach to Supervision

I believe good supervision holds space for both clinical skill and clinician identity. I approach supervision with curiosity, compassion, and transparency, creating a nonjudgmental space where you can explore:

  • Case conceptualization and treatment planning

  • Ethical decision-making and navigating gray areas

  • Transference, countertransference, and your own emotional responses

  • Boundaries, burnout, and the realities of working in this field

  • Your evolving identity as a therapist

We’ll blend practical tools with reflective conversations so you can not only meet requirements—but grow into the clinician you’re meant to be.

Who I Supervise

  • Associate Licensed Marriage and Family Therapists (LMFTAs) pursuing licensure in North Carolina and South Carolina

  • Licensed Clinical Mental Health Counselor Associates (LCMHCA) pursuing licensure in North Carolina

  • Pre-licensed clinicians seeking a relational, supportive supervision experience

  • Clinicians interested in or currently working with couples, attachment-based work including EFT, life transitions, and identity exploration

Why Work With Me?

Because I see you not just as a therapist in training, but as a whole human. I have been there, navigating imposter syndrome, feeling the weight of client stories, and wondering if I am doing it right. My goal is to hold a space that is both grounding and expansive, where we can celebrate growth, sit with uncertainty, and honor your unique path in this work.

This is not about perfection. It is about presence, intention, and learning to trust yourself as a clinician.

AAMFT-Approved Supervisor Mentorship

As part of my commitment to mentoring the next generation of clinical leaders, I also provide supervision for therapists who are in the process of becoming AAMFT-Approved Supervisors.

These professionals, known as Supervisor Candidates, are fully licensed clinicians who are deepening their skills by offering supervision under my mentorship. Each candidate brings their own unique expertise, training background, and passion for helping therapists grow.

By working with one of our Supervisor Candidates, you can:

  • Receive high-quality, supportive supervision at a reduced rate.

  • Gain the benefit of a collaborative model—your Candidate’s guidance plus my ongoing mentorship behind the scenes.

  • Be part of a professional community that values growth, accountability, and ethical practice.

This directory highlights our current Supervisor Candidates so you can learn more about their areas of focus, availability, and approach to supervision.
